What are ground anchors used for?
Ground anchors are used for additional securing of the artificial grass and for enhanced fixation of the seams. They ensure that the artificial grass remains firmly in place and prevent shifts or upheavals of the lawn.
You place the ground anchors around the artificial grass area at approximately 50 cm intervals. If there are seams, you place ground anchors on both sides of the seam and again at 50 cm intervals along the seam. In areas that are more frequently walked on, you may choose to place additional ground anchors.
By correctly placing ground anchors, you ensure a solid and stable support for the artificial grass, preventing the lawn from shifting or being lifted.
Tip from the Royal Grass expert:
“Make sure to push the artificial grass fibers aside before fully driving the ground anchor into the ground to prevent the fibers from being pulled down through the ground anchor. Always place the ground anchors between the rows of grass tufts and not over the tufts. This way, the ground anchors remain invisible in the lawn.”
How many ground anchors do I need for my artificial grass project?
We recommend placing a ground anchor every 50 cm along the edge of the artificial grass area, as well as at the beginning and end of a seam and every 50 cm along the seam on both sides of the seam. In areas that are frequently walked on, you may consider additional ground anchors.

It is recommended to securely anchor the artificial grass with ground anchors and fill it with sand. The ground anchors provide additional stability for the lawn and its seams. The sand adds weight to the artificial grass, making it lie more stable.
The sand significantly increases the stability of the artificial grass, preventing the lawn from easily shifting. It also supports the artificial grass fibres, reducing the likelihood of them lying flat and extending the lifespan of the lawn. Don’t worry, the sand is not visible as the sand grains fall between the blades of grass.
We recommend infilling our products with Royal Grass Infill Sand ranging from 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm. The amount of sand depends on the product type and the fibre height of the artificial grass.
